Fox News Syndrome

To argue with those who have renounced the use and authority of reason is as futile as to administer medicine to the dead ~ Thomas Paine

This describes the state of the Democratic party today.  So, why does the GOP keep arguing as if their were an ounce of reason in their opponent?

I call it the Fox News Syndrome (FNS).  To appear superior through a fair and balanced debate, to take the high road, to present Reason for the hope of miraculous conversion just as the Humanists envisioned Chrisitans flocking to them when presented with Reason, which hasn't happened btw.

FNS might be good for cable news since it never solves anything thereby keeping the status quo thereby keeping everyone employed til the next fair and balanced "debate".  Note- if it weren't for shows like O'Reilly or Hannity or even Glenn Beck then FoxNews would not have the ratings it currently has since its daytime content is very much like CNN only with much much better looking, and smarter, reporter'ettes.

But it doesn't work for a political party.  To their credit, the GOP argues as if their opponent understands or even cares.  Yet, like Fox, both arguments are presented and heard, then both retreat to their camps and nobody changes sides or to continue with my religious theme, there are no new baptisms scheduled afterwards.  Just the status quo.

To understand this is to change the landscape of the war.  Like Plutarch, I like to point but not lead.

If the GOP wants to persist in business as usual, then it really needs to recruit some very attractive yet smart talent for their campaigns as Fox has with their anchor'ettes (had to throw in the 'ettes part to keep Bill Hemmer from including himself, that self-absorbed putz).  Either that or risk the equivalent lack of relevancy of a PMSNBC.
